A God who speaks with man!

Image
At the garden As we read through the Bible, there is a beautiful thread of instances where we see God speaking with man. The creation account in Genesis records God speaking with Adam in the garden every day. God talked to him about his work, gave a command to follow and even brought all the animals and birds He had created to Adam so he could name them. It was a friendly relationship, more like a mentor guiding his student. Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Genesis 2:15-17 But the very next chapter captures the events that lead to this communication breaking down due to Adam’s sin. God called Adam as usual in the cool of the afternoon. But this time Ada...

Inward Holiness

Matthew chapter 21 records the incident of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Soon after Matthew records that Jesus entered the temple and drove out the money changer and those who sold doves within the temple premises. On hearing that Jesus was in the temple, many who were blind and lame came to Jesus and he immediately healed them. There were 2 sets of people who were witnesses to these miracles.  (i) Chief Priests and scribes and (ii) the children. However, as we read the following verses, we can observe that the same incident has very different impact on these two different sets of people and evoked starkly different reactions from both. Matthew 21:15 says: But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant Jesus had done a “wonderful thing” by healing the blind and the lame. People were rejoicing, children were crying out saying, “Ho...

Hearing God’s Voice through God’s Word

Image
Often, we hear testimonies of how God spoke to someone through the Bible. But some of us may be wondering, “I have never had this experience. I have never felt that God was speaking to me when I read the scripture”. If this is the way you feel, do not be discouraged. There are a few clear principles in the Bible that help us overcome the problem and hear more clearly from God. And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it. But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples. Mark 4:33-34 PRINCIPLE #1   Jesus speaks to us as much as we are able to hear   Jesus is always ready to speak to us. So, it is our eagerness, earnestness and our willingness to hear and obey which determines how much we hear from Him. Nicodemus came to meet Jesus one night. Jesus spoke to him about being born again. But Nicodemus questioned Jesus saying “Can a man enter his mother’s womb to be...

Joyful Giving

Image
The Bible teaches us many principles for living as the children of God. I like to call these the Kingdom Principles. One such principle is regarding giving. It may be giving to God, or to others; either as tithes and offerings or as gifts of money, things or time. Why give? God is the source of all our blessings: James 1:17 says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” Deuteronomy 8:18 reminds us, “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth”. So, our giving to the LORD acknowledges Him as the source of all our blessings; it shows our gratefulness; and it honors & glorifies Him. Our giving is God’s provision to the Church and to his children in need: Malachi 3:8-10 challenges us, “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say...

Guard Your Heart

Image
Dear young man/ young lady,   Did you know that the core of your identity is your heart ❤️.    Your heart is special, so God wants you to guard your heart and keep it pure and holy. Why? Because, When we are careless and give our heart to people who may hurt it, we will end up with a broken heart.  When we allow impure thoughts into our heart, we may end up doing impure actions with bad motives that cause heart break to others. Some times we can hurt someone so bad that their identity itself is broken or ruined. Think about it, today many people your age have girlfriend or boyfriend, they are committed in a relationship. Many think that it is cool. What do you think about that? How does it affect your heart? Often we think that the other person is the love of our life. But what is their purpose of the relationship? Many a time at this age it’s just fantasy or infatuation. Just having a good time talking with them or even depending on them to fulfil your emotional nee...

A Call to Holy Living

Image
1 Peter 1:13-16 13So then, have your minds ready for action. Keep alert and set your hope completely on the blessing which will be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. 14Be obedient to God, and do not allow your lives to be shaped by those desires you had when you were still ignorant. 15Instead, be holy in all that you do, just as God who called you is holy. 16 The scripture says, “Be holy because I am holy.” Even after God redeemed the Israelites from Egypt, they still longed for the pleasures of Egypt. The went back to idols of Egypt even at the foot of the mountain of God (while God was still talking to Moses). They craved for the meet and delicacies of Egypt and grumbled against God. How are we living? Are we craving worldly pleasures all the time? Or are we finding joy in communing with Jesus like Moses at Sinai?  The Lord is waiting for us. He yearns for us to commune with him. Would you be alert today, avoid running to the pleasures of Egypt and seek to live a ho...

Praying for your Husband

Image
Family is the core unit of society, but it is under threat in many ways. A strong family is built on a strong marriage. But as we all would agree, no marriage is perfect. The reason for this is that each of us are imperfect persons. Its not only your spouse who is imperfect, we are too :) So a strong marriage is built on understanding and forgiveness.  Bible clearly tells us that marriage is a covenant relationship, which means it is not a contract that if you keep your part of the bargain is when I will deliver on my promises or keep my vow. But when we take God at His word and take our marriage seriously, we can be sure God will help us iron out the differences and help us build a strong and loving marriage.  On our part, we need to pray for our spouse. Prayer is a channel for God blessings to flow into your family and into your marriage. The points below are a great way to start praying for your Husband and I encourage you to take time to pray daily for your husband using t...
